Bird Room Meditations

The Great Move

In The Great Move one finch, one canary and one human being live through upheaval, fear, discomfort and faith in this cross-country journey from the West to St. Augustine. New chapters are coming weekly.

Taking People on a One-Way Flight from Doubt to Conviction

Just as birds in a room know nothing about the world beyond their room, we know nothing about the world of God until we ask God to come into our lives. We need to know that we see without perceiving and hear without understanding. From this place of simple truth we can recognize that miracles are easy for God and that, figuratively speaking, He might send a Peace Bird into a bird room to show the birds what they are not seeing and how they can change.

Twenty years ago, before I came to know God, I knew I wanted to create a refuge for a few animals in a tumultuous world. Designing and maintaining it provided one tranquil place in my life even while uncertainty defined the rest of it. I was surrounded by confused people who steered me away from God.

When I finally called out to God from my heart, He changed my life. Now I spend my spare time writing analogies and allegories to show others like me, those who are intellectuals and animal lovers, the truth. I hope you will read at least one page and discover that the wall of your perception is not as solid as you once thought. And the next time someone invites you to church, you will give it a try always keeping in mind that other people can and will have false ideas too. Each of us needs to find our community, but we must do this with enough conviction to find one that is genuine.

I hope my finches and canaries will help at least one person, every single day, to take off on a one-way flight from doubt to conviction!

Bird Room Meditations

Meet the Bird Room

If you are new, questioning or returning to faith in Christ, start with Meet the Bird Room for some basics on perception or spiritual blindness. Then explore Creation for other fundamental principles on who we are and who God is. Finally, learn about the life of Christ in the Peace Bird series. See how possible miracles really are!

Do you struggle with bad habits or addictions? Just about everyone does, even birds! In the Servant Bird series, explore one canary’s journey from addiction and weak faith to freedom and strong faith. This series was inspired by an actual canary from my room! And please use the writing prize challenge to help you on your way.

The Great Move

Told in three voices, The Great Move is a story of upheaval, fear, doubt and transition as one finch, one canary and one human being journey from the West to St. Augustine. Along the way, the finch and canary learn about a Peace Bird who lived, died and returned 2,000 days ago. New chapters are being posted weekly.

“How to Spread the Word”

It’s hard to know how to start with people who were not raised Christian and who believe the negative stereotypes. These meditations are so helpful to evangelical Christians.

A Note To Christians

I was raised Christian, but left the faith in my twenties when some of my family’s difficulties caused me to question fundamental ideas. Having left the faith, I know personally how miserable people feel without the love of Christ. I was always an animal lover, and I remember hitting an age when there were no more animal stories that were intellectual enough for me. Then I found Jonathan Livingston Seagull and ate it up–mostly because I longed for good animal stories.

If you know a young person who is like I was in my twenties, please consider looking over the writings on this site, and share one that will be most effective with someone you love. I used to be very good at hiding my problems from people, so please remember that the young person who seems a little off track, but mostly all right may need more help than you think.

I believe revival starts with each of us using all of our time for God and that means being creative and enjoying ourselves as we do this! If you’re over fifty, like me, the next generation needs your experience and guidance.

“This is why I speak to them in parables … With them indeed is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah which says,

‘You shall indeed hear but never understand;
    you shall indeed see but never perceive.
    For this people’s heart has grown dull;
    and their ears are heavy of hearing,
    and their eyes they have closed,
lest they should perceive with their eyes,
    and hear with their ears,
    and understand with their heart
and turn for me to heal them.’

But blessed are your eyes, for they see,

And your ears for they hear.”

Matthew 13: 13-16
